Session description:
In 2019 we at rku.it lay the foundation for NextGen, our technology platform based on S/4HANA, the core of which consists of three product lines,NextGen Core, NextGen Integration, and NextGen Utilities, with implementation projects starting in 2020 and 2022, respectively.
In 2023 we introduced the first release of NextGen Utilities to the German Utilities market, offering it to potential customers as a SaaS solution. Soon after, we received several requests along the lines of „Nice template you got there! Would you be willing to sell it to us?“, and after a brief period of contemplation we embarked on a journey, discovering all the potential benefits and pitfalls that arise by turning a preconfigured S/4HANA Utilities system into a product.
In this talk I am going to briefly recount the story of how we got to where we are today, offer detailed insight into the ramifications it has for ABAP development, and point out the organizational and environmental factors that are key to the success of an endeavour such as this.
